Hwy 65 construction resumes in Ham Lake on Sunday, April 6

Construction, orange cones and barrels...and lane restrictions will resume Sun, April 6 on Hwy 65 between 147th Ave./Andover Blvd. and Bunker Lake Blvd. in Ham Lake. If you are a regular traveler on Hwy 65, you’ll find single lane head-to-head traffic on the northbound side of the highway beginning around 11 a.m. Sun, April 6 through mid-May. Traffic will then shift to the northbound and southbound Hwy 65 lanes, but remain reduced to one lane in each direction until the end of May.

Also beginning Sun, April 6, 143rd Ave. will close at Hwy 65 until the end of May. Please follow the eastbound 143rd Ave. detour north on Hwy 65, east on 147th Ave. and south on Aberdeen St. Westbound 143rd Ave. traffic should follow the detour south on Hwy 65, west on Bunker Lake Blvd. and north on Lincoln St.

Traffic restrictions will allow crews to complete work on the new southbound Hwy 65 bridge crossing Coon Creek just south of 147th Ave./Andover Blvd. Additional work includes guardrail installation, resurfacing, new striping and final landscaping. This year’s work completes a project that began in 2023 to repair, resurface and replace bridges on more than 19 miles of Hwy 65 between Co. Rd. 10 in Spring Lake Park and 237th Ave. in East Bethel.

All work is anticipated to be complete and the road fully reopened before the July 4 holiday weekend.

Drivers who regularly use Hwy 65, are encouraged to use an alternate route if possible, such as I-35W or Hwy 47 to avoid congestion and delays.

We appreciate your patience while we make these improvements. Plan ahead by checking 511, and give yourself additional time to reach your destination.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.

Please drive with care in work zones:

  • Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate with care and caution.
  • Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
  • Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
  • Obey posted speed limits. The fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
  • Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
  • Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

More about this project

In September 2023, we began a project to repair, resurface and replace bridges on more than 19 miles of Hwy 65 between Co. Rd. 10 in Spring Lake Park and 237th Ave. in East Bethel. Work includes resurfacing of nearly 16.5 miles of highway, box culvert installation, culvert replacement, reconstruction of settled pavement, installation of high-tension cable median barrier, drainage improvements and curb ramp and sidewalk improvements at several intersections. The project is anticipated to be complete in July 2025.
